Dear Parents / Guardians,
Springfield Secondary School is committed to build a positive partnership with parents in order to develop our students as Future-Ready Learners with a Caring Heart and the Confidence to Lead, who are grounded in our STRIDE school values of Service, Tenacity, Respect, Integrity, Diligence and Empathy. We need to prepare them to be adaptable and resilient, to be able to respect differences and embrace diversity; in so doing, let us work together to live out our school motto of ‘Better Self for Better Tomorrow’.
In order to have better home-school partnership, we hope the following guidelines provide greater clarity on how we can work hand-in-hand to help our students have ownership over their learning, develop a sense of purpose and success in life.
To instill personal responsibility and independence in our students, teachers will communicate directly with them on matters pertaining to schoolwork/ CCA, e.g., homework to be done, materials to be brought to school etc. We encourage parents to check in with your child/ ward on these and have them seek assistance directly from teachers if necessary.
Parents will be kept informed of school events and student attendance, HBL days etc. via notices sent out through Parents Gateway (PG). Teachers may also contact you to discuss support for or well-being of your child/ward. If there is a need, parents may use the following channels to reach teachers:

The school will endeavour to respond to your inquiry within a day or two for straightforward matters. Queries that require checking or further investigation may take longer (3- 5 working days). We would appreciate your understanding that there may be a delay should the teacher be away or on leave.
Appointments to meet with teachers should preferably be made at least three days in advance during the school term. Parents may call the General Office, email the school, or contact the teacher directly to make the appointment.
The school looks forward to a productive partnership with parents. Nevertheless, it is important to know that all Civil Servants are protected under the Protection from Harassment Act (PoHA); and the school reserves the right not to engage with individuals who are disrespectful, rude or abusive to our staff. Springfield Parents' Network (SPN)
The Springfield Parents Network (SPN) is a dedicated community of parents who believe that every child thrives when families and schools work hand in hand. Guided by the core pillars of Collaboration, Support, and Appreciation, the SPN brings parents together to forge meaningful partnerships with the school, walk alongside one another in the parenting journey, and show gratitude to the teachers and staff who nurture our children daily. Together, we build a caring community where every Springfield student can flourish.
Objectives of the SPN
The Springfield Parents Network (SPN) is led by a dedicated Executive Committee made up of passionate parent volunteers who plan, organise and guide the network’s activities throughout the year. Their commitment ensures that every parent’s voice is heard and that meaningful programmes are brought to life for the benefit of all families.

Our Programmes Through the Years
Every year, the Springfield Parents Network (SPN) brings parents and families together through a variety of activities and initiatives. From parent education talks and practical workshops to family bonding sessions and heartfelt celebrations, each event is thoughtfully planned to build stronger home-school partnerships, equip parents with valuable skills, and create shared memories within our Springfield family. Insightful talks by Care Corner to equip parents with practical tips and fresh perspectives for everyday parenting.
Parent-Child Bonding Sessions
Fun and meaningful activities for parents and children to strengthen family ties and make memories together.
Coffee Talks for Parents with SEN
A safe, supportive space for parents of students with special educational needs to connect, share, and encourage one another.
Habituating Study Skills Workshop
Hands-on workshop to help parents guide their children in building good study habits and self-discipline at home.

Parent-Child Bonding Sessions
Strengthen family bonds, foster positive communication, and create shared experiences that build trust and understanding. They provide opportunities for parents and children to learn, play, and grow together in a supportive environment.
Supporting School Events
Partnering with teachers and staff to enhance students’ learning experiences. SPN contributes through volunteering, organising activities, providing resources, and fostering a strong school-home partnership.
Five Cs of Parenting Sharing
5 Cs of parenting sharing focuses on guiding parents to nurture their children through Care, Communication, Consistency, Character-building, and Connection. It provides practical strategies to strengthen family relationships and support children’s holistic development.
Supporting Staff and Graduating Students
Appreciation to staff during Teachers’ Day through heartfelt gestures, and extending well wishes to graduating classes by coordinating letters of encouragement from parents as they embark on their next journey.
Leave of Absence Scheme
The Leave of Absence (LOA) scheme allows your child to rejoin their school after they return from overseas.
If your child is granted LOA, they will remain as a registered student of the school. They can then be re-admitted to the school directly after returning to Singapore.
Eligibility
LOA applies to all Singapore Citizens (SC) and Permanent Resident (PR) children in primary school, secondary school, junior colleges and Millennia Institute.
To be granted LOA, your child must fulfil all three of the following criteria:
An SC or PR.
Presently studying in a Singapore school.
Accompanying you on an overseas posting with the intention of rejoining their school after returning to Singapore.

Application
Please submit the online Application for Leave of Absence if you wish to apply for the LOA scheme for your child.
Please note that the LOA application is subject to the Principal’s approval, and the school will notify you of the outcome.
