Science Curriculum in Springfield Secondary is guided by three key pillars:

Science Research Programme
Our Science Research Programme offers students the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and immerse themselves in authentic scientific inquiry. Under the guidance of mentors, students design and carry out their own research projects, applying investigative skills, critical thinking, and creativity to explore real-world scientific problems. Through this process, they gain hands-on experience with experimental techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication, building confidence and a deeper appreciation for how science advances knowledge and solves challenges. This programme nurtures curiosity, perseverance, and innovation, — qualities that are essential for future learning and success.

Secondary 1’s Epic Science Kick-Off: A STEMazing Race
The STEMazing Race marked an exciting launch of our Secondary 1 students’
science journey. Designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm, this high-energy
event challenged students to navigate a series of interactive stations
themed around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
At each station, teams applied their creativity, problem-solving skills,
and scientific knowledge to complete hands-on tasks—ranging from quick-fire
experiments to logic puzzles and design challenges. The race not only brought
textbook concepts to life but also encouraged collaboration, resilience,
and strategic thinking.
By the end of the day, our students had experienced the joy of discovery, strengthened their bonds as classmates, and taken their first steps towards seeing science as an exciting, real-world adventure. The STEMazing Race truly set the tone for a year of exploration, innovation, and teamwork.

Secondary 2 STEM Quests: From Robots to Rainforests
Our Secondary 2 students took their learning to the next level through the Explore@STEM programme—a hands-on challenge that blended creativity, technology, and science. Tasked with programming mBots to transport an ice cube safely across a bridge, students had to think like engineers and scientists, applying their understanding of heat transfer and insulation while devising strategies to minimise melting. The activity not only reinforced scientific concepts but also strengthened critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills in a fun, competitive setting.
To deepen their appreciation for the natural world, students also stepped out of the classroom for immersive learning journeys. At the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, they explored Singapore’s rich biodiversity and gained insights into conservation efforts. The Biodiversity Learning Journey at Bird Paradise offered close encounters with diverse bird species and their habitats, reinforcing lessons on interactions within ecosystems. These authentic experiences brought science to life, inspiring students to see the interconnectedness of technology, nature, and conservation.

Secondary 3 Science Adventures: ‘Taking Flight and Diving Deep’
Science took flight for our Secondary 3 students in the Power Glider Challenge. Working in teams, they sketched, cut, assembled, and fine-tuned their own glider designs—putting the physics of aerodynamics, forces, and motion into action. Each test flight was a lesson in experimentation: some soared gracefully, others nose-dived, but all sparked lively discussions on how to improve.
“It was exciting to see our ideas actually fly—literally!” one student shared.
Through trial and error, they developed not just technical know-how but also creativity, resilience, and sharp analytical skills.
From the skies, learning plunged into the depths with the OceanX Education Programme. Onboard a research vessel, students became young marine explorers—observing sea life up close, studying water samples, and engaging with scientists about conservation challenges.
“I never realised how much the ocean connects to our daily lives until I saw it for myself,” reflected another student.
This unforgettable experience linked classroom science to real-world environmental
action, inspiring our students to think globally and act responsibly for
the planet’s future.

Secondary 4’s Day at the Museum: Time-Traveling Through Evolution
Our Secondary 4 Biology students traded their classroom for the captivating halls of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum—and stepped straight into Earth’s storybook. Surrounded by towering dinosaur skeletons, preserved specimens, and intricate fossil displays, they explored the incredible journey of life through time.
From ancient sea creatures to modern-day marvels, every exhibit brought the concepts of evolution to life. Students examined how species adapt, survive, and diversify, seeing first-hand the evidence that has shaped our understanding of life’s history.
“It’s like walking through millions of years in a single afternoon,” one student shared, eyes wide with excitement.
More than just a field trip, this was a chance to connect textbook theories to real, tangible examples—making evolution not just a chapter in their syllabus, but a living, breathing story. The visit left our budding biologists inspired, curious, and ready to dig deeper into the mysteries of life on Earth.
